11th Conference of the European Committee for the Conservation of Bryophytes

29 April 2026

The 11th Conference of the European Committee for the Conservation of Bryophytes (ECCB) is scheduled to be held at the Botanical Garden of Cagliari, Sardinia, from 19 to 22 May 2026. This international gathering is organised by the ECCB in collaboration with the Bryology Working Group of the Italian Botanical Society and the University of Cagliari.

The conference programme is structured to address critical aspects of bryophyte conservation through four dedicated sessions. Key subjects to be examined include the effects of climate change on lilliputian ecosystems, the implementation of Red List practices across Europe, and advancements in bryophyte systematics. Technical discussions are expected to cover modern monitoring techniques, such as the integration of environmental DNA (eDNA) and the automated identification of moss species via spore morphology.

In addition to the presentation of research papers, two field excursions are planned for the final days of the event. Participants will be guided through the Giara and Laconi Park, as well as the Marganai Forest, to observe some of the most significant bryological habitats in Italy.

A prize will be awarded for best oral presentation by Pensoft at the conclusion of the event, with the recipient to be granted a free publication in a journal of their choice from the publisher’s portfolio.
